Video: 2,200 migrants cross the Del Rio sector in ONE DAY as Rep. says Guatemala has offered to help

Video of the border shows at least 700 migrants entering the US from Mexico in a single day at just one border crossing in Eagle Pass, Texas.

It comes just as Representative Tony Gonzales, a Republican from Texas, revealed that Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei offered to help President Joe Biden with the southern border crisis if he asked for help.

Fox News’ Bill Melugin posted a series of videos on Twitter on Sunday showing massive numbers of migrants crossing illegally and being detained by authorities on Texas’ southern border.

In one tweet, he notes that he witnessed more than 500 migrants crossing into Eagle Pass, including a group that numbered a total of 290 people. Another tweet showed images of two additional groups with a total of 200 additional migrants.

Eagle Pass is a popular crossing point. There have been about 400,000 illegal crossings since October in this area alone.

Melugin noted that the entire Del Rio sector saw 2,200 illegal crossings in just 24 hours.

Congressman Gonzalez told President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Fox News Radio Guy Benson last week that they should ask President Giammattei for help.

“I specifically asked the president of Guatemala, ‘Hey, what would it take to make more of these repatriation flights?'” Gonzales said of a conversation he had with the Guatemalan leader.

‘These are people who are not eligible for asylum, you send them back to their country of origin. What would it take for you to take more of those flights? His answer was, ‘A simple thing, Tony. I just need the President of the United States to call me. He doesn’t even call me.’

Giammattei told Fox in December that he has had no contact with the White House since Harris’ visit to Guatemala last June.

Harris was named a “border czar” by President Biden when she took office, with the task of helping her end the southern border crisis, which continues to see a record number of border crossings per month, inhumane conditions at border facilities and a few tragic fatalities. .

While the illegal crossing in June took a dip for the first time in five months, the trend seems to be picking up again.

No figures have yet been released for July on the number of migrants found by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), but the agency detained 207,416 the month before.

The June figure was a sharp drop from the all-time high of 240,991 crossings in May.

Since March, there have been more than 200,000 encounters with migrants at the border every month.

While many migrants are being returned under Title 42 public health protections, thousands are being released in the US in places like Arizona and Texas. Both states have begun transporting migrants to Washington, DC and New York City to help quell the crisis in border communities.

Harris’s office insists its aim is not to tackle the migrant crisis at the border. Rather, they claim that its mission is to investigate the root causes in countries in the Northern Triangle that lead to a massive amount of migrants moving north.

The White House Fox said in a statement that the Biden administration has “strong cooperation with Guatemala” when it comes to the repatriation of migrants.

“President Biden brought together 20 world leaders for the first time in June to assume collective responsibility for managing migratory flows across the Western Hemisphere, including through repatriation,” the official noted.
