VanMoof’s new electric “hyper bike” reaches 50 km / h: twice what current regulation allows

VanMoof wants to turn electric bicycles into a vehicle as widely used as motorcycles or scooters. This company born in Amsterdam achieved an investment of 128 million dollars at the beginning of September and now presents its latest electric bicycle: the VanMoof V.

We are facing a “hyperbike”, as defined by the company itself. A category of its own created to represent that this electric bike does not fit well into any of the categories established today in Europe. While the limit for electric bikes is 25 km / h, the new VanMoof V is capable of exceeding 50 km / h thanks to its two electric motors.

Double electric motor and full suspension

According to its specifications, this vehicle could be treated like a motorcycle. However, unlike other models, its aesthetics and operation fit perfectly into the electric bike category.

The VanMoof V is one of the fastest electric bikes shown to date, although in the past we have seen models like the Gulas Pi1, capable of reaching 80 km / h. Although, there is an important difference at the design level. While at first glance that model looked like a motorcycle, the VanMoof V maintains the wheels, suspension, pedaling, saddle and top tube of the bikes.

It has two engines, full suspension in the front and rear, a Turbo Boost button and GPS anti-theft system.

The technical specifications of the VanMoof V point to a 700 Wh battery and a twin motor up to 1 kW. The maximum speed is set at 50 kilometers per hour, although in a promotional video the engineers spoke that this electric bicycle is capable of reaching 60 km / h. As with other models, the legislation of each country will determine how this vehicle is registered and therefore what use and maximum speed it may have.

I have been with an electric bike for seven years: this is my experience

One of the things the company wants to focus on is force to adapt regulation. Ties Carlier, co-founder of VanMoof explains that “it is an electric bike dedicated to higher speeds and longer distances. I think this new type of high speed electric bike can completely replace scooters and cars in the city by 2025. We are here. calling for policies designed around people, rethinking how public spaces can be used if they are not occupied by cars. ”

The official price of this new VanMoof V is 3.498 euros, available through invitations starting today.
