Tommy Fury’s preparations for his cruiserweight fight with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul have taken a hit after the Brit caught a cold.
Fury, the younger brother of two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson, will face Paul on December 18 in Florida as he seeks to maintain his undefeated professional record.
Speaking to iFL TV, promoter Frank Warren said: ‘Tommy had a bit of a cold, but hopefully he’ll be fine.
Tommy Fury has been catching a cold in preparation for next month’s fight with Jake Paul.
The pair clashed in Cleveland after Fury beat Anthony Taylor and Paul beat Tyron Woodley.
‘We are in Morecambe [on Wednesday] so hopefully we’ll know more then, but he’s willing to do it and wants to fight.
“ He can’t wait for the fight and I certainly know from Jake’s perspective that he can’t wait for the fight. ”
Tyson is training Tommy for the fight, which has been highly anticipated for months after Fury took on Paul in Cleveland in August following the pair’s respective victories over Anthony Taylor and Tyron Woodley.
The fight has been on the card for most of 2021, and Tommy’s father John said he will disown his son if he loses to Paul.
However, Fury is confident in his chances of success and tells his nemesis: ‘When they hit you all over the face and break your nose and ears, you are going to look [Paul’s trainer] BJ Flores and thinks: ‘What have I done here? I shouldn’t have called him. Get me out! ”
I beg you, do not retreat on the stool. Go out there and fight like a man. I wish the fight was tomorrow. I got this out of his fight with Tyron Woodley.
John Fury says he will disown his son if he loses to Paul, but Tommy is confident of victory
‘The man got a split decision victory. That means you just won against a 40-year-old retired UFC fighter.
My God, well done. Good work mate. You almost hit a 40-year-old man. When you get there with a 22-year-old who’s been doing this all his life, you’ll want to limit yourself to paying UFC fighters and basketball players.
‘You should have fought Tiger Woods, not someone who has done it his whole life, because you are in for a big surprise. You’re the one who’s going to collapse. ‘
