Tim Paine has issued a public and emotional apology to his wife of five years for the ‘pain and pain’ he caused her when he sent lewd messages to a colleague.

The father-of-two tearfully resigned as captain of the Australian cricket team on Friday afternoon, shortly after learning that the sexting scandal was going public.

In 2017, when he was first promoted to the Australian side, Paine began sending flirty texts to a Cricket Tasmania employee.

The messages progressed, and on November 23, the woman claims she sent him an unsolicited photo of his penis.

‘Do you want to taste my dick? F ** k me, I’m really hard, ‘read one of the messages he sent to the woman.

Tim Paine has issued a public and emotional apology to his wife of five years for the ‘pain and pain’ he caused her when he sent lewd messages to a colleague.

While news of the scandal broke on Friday, Paine said he and his wife got over the betrayal at the time and that she had forgiven and supported him.

While wiping the tears from his eyes, Paine detailed how he thought the saga was ‘behind us’ and that he could ‘fully focus on the team as I have for the past three or four years.’

“I recently realized that this private text exchange would go public. Come to think of it, my actions in 2017 do not meet the standard of an Australian cricket captain. ‘

Cricket Australia is believed to have found out in June 2018 and launched an investigation, together with Cricket Tasmania.

The woman interacted with Paine on and off for about a year, and the leaked messages were flirtatious on both sides.

Seven months after the incident, the woman sent a letter to Cricket Australia and Cricket Tasmania, as well as the Australian Human Rights Commission, complaining of sexual harassment.

The woman disagreed with “the sexually explicit, unwanted and unsolicited photograph of Mr. Paine of his genitals, in addition to the graphic sexual comments.”
