There is a new ‘Brothers in Arms’ in development: Gearbox wants to resurrect the saga, although it will take time to teach the game
If we think about current shooter franchises, the two names that come to mind are most likely ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Battlefield’. In the past, however, there were more options, such as’ Medal of Honor ‘(which returned in a virtual reality installment) and’Brothers in Arms‘, who has been missing since 2008.
It’s been a long time since the guys at Gearbox released ‘Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway’ and the company has said on occasion that they would like to resume the franchise. Now we know that there is a new installment in development, although unfortunately we will have to wait to see it.
“I’m not going to say a f ****** until we have it”
The news came from Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, in an interview on the Game Maker’s Notebook podcast. During the interview, the CEO recalled the disastrous launch of ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’, which it was announced too soon. The game came with a much worse graphic section than shown, with too simple mechanics, a rather bland script and artificial intelligence with specific bugs.
They didn’t do the same with ‘Borderlands 3’, one of their last big games, which wasn’t announced “until it was in beta.” On the one hand, it is an interesting strategy because it allows you to show the game in a more polished state. Secondly, causes fans to have to wait longer than necessary.
Nevertheless, the rush is not good and Pichford prefers to wait for something more solid before showing / announcing the new title of the saga. In his own words:
“[…] We’re working on another ‘Brothers in Arms’ game, but I’m not going to say a f *** until we have it, you know […] And we have fans who really love that [serie] and they will have to suffer. “
Thus, it is confirmed that at some point in the future we will have a new installment of ‘Brothers in Arms’. When? It is not known. The last title of the franchise dates from 2008, although it is true that later there were some other installments for mobile phones.
It should be remembered that in 2012 a new game was expected, ‘Brother in Arms: Furious 4’, which ended up being delayed, then becoming a new IP and, finally, canceled in 2015. Some of its content was later mirrored on ‘Battleborn’, a competitor to ‘Overwatch’ whose servers shut down at the end of January.
