The Yorkshire racing scandal takes another turn when coach Andrew Gale is caught in a storm of anti-Semitism

The Yorkshire race scandal takes another turn when head coach Andrew Gale is caught in a storm of anti-Semitism by a tweet sent in 2010.

  • Head coach Andrew Gale has been accused of sending an anti-Semitic tweet
  • He allegedly called then-Leeds United media chief Paul Dews a ‘y **’
  • This follows the Yorkshire racism scandal that has rocked the cricket world

The Yorkshire racing crisis took another turn on Friday when coach Andrew Gale was accused of sending an anti-Semitic tweet when he was captain of the club.

Gale tweeted to then-Leeds United media chief Paul Dews in 2010 that included the words ‘hug her yid!’ Jewish News reported yesterday.

The Yorkshire coach said he was “completely unaware” of the offensive nature of the term when he posted the tweet, which was removed shortly after it was posted.

“This post is part of a conversation thread between Paul Dews and myself,” Gale said. ‘The reference is to a chant that was prevalent at the time towards Leeds fans.

Within minutes of the message, Paul called me and explained the meaning of the word and that it was offensive to Jews. I did not fully know this meaning and immediately deleted it. I would never have used that word if I had been aware of its offensive meaning and I have not used it since.

Yorkshire CEO Mark Arthur told Jewish News: ‘This kind of behavior would be completely unacceptable to the club. Now that we know, it goes without saying that we will investigate the allegation thoroughly. ”

Coincidentally, these are the exact same words used by Yorkshire after Sportsmail’s revelation yesterday that an anonymous British Asian member of their academy was another player, along with Azeem Rafiq, who suffered racial abuse.

Clearly, the investigations are piling up for Yorkshire and the ECB.
