Abel Tesfaye, the singer-songwriter better known as The Weeknd, has purchased one of the remaining penthouses in Beverly West, a boutique tower in Westwood, in one of the highest condo sales ever in the Los Angeles region.

The singer & # 39; Can & # 39; t Feel My Face & # 39; and & # 39; The Hills & # 39; paid $ 21 million – or about $ 2,555 per square foot – for the residence, which covers the entire 18th floor. Certain furniture assembled by designers were negotiated separately, according to real estate sources familiar with the deal.

The sale binds real estate developer Richard Lewis ’June purchase of another Beverly West penthouse for the most expensive condo sale in LA County this year, records show. The two sales are the most paid for an apartment in the Los Angeles area since 2010, when Candy Spelling purchased a two-story penthouse in the Century building in Century City for around $ 35 million.

Bill Simpson of Hilton & Hyland, an exclusive listing agent for Beverly West, said people are starting to recognize and appreciate the benefits, privacy and location of high-rise buildings.

And it's not just older homebuyers who buy in the lifestyle.

"If you have a buyer like (Tesfaye), this appeals to the market," Simpson said. "The younger generation gets hip to vertical life."

The penthouse of Tesfaye was one of the four that came on the market in August and had a price tag of $ 23 million. Each penthouse, which occupies the upper floors of the 22-storey tower, is designed to match a certain personality and has a unique design with composite materials and different color palettes.

The purchased penthouse Tesfaye is called the "Mogul" and has a dark, masculine palette of deep navy blue supplemented with paneling of walnut. The home of 8,215 square feet also has a designer kitchen, imported wide plank oak floors, high-quality fixtures and direct lift access. Wall-to-ceiling windows frame beautiful views in almost every direction.

"This penthouse is designed for a mogul, and it's a mogul who buys it," said construction project manager Eric Jencks.

Jencks said that Tesfaye has a similar profile to others who bought in the building: people who do not want to be in a homogeneous living space, but also do not want to lose the privacy of an estate or single-family home.

"Beverly West has no common areas next to the service floor," he said. "Every owner goes on his short elevator to his own airspace."

The Beverly West building, developed by real estate company Emaar Properties, has 35 units and features a 24-hour concierge, a gym and a salt-water swimming pool. There is a helicopter platform on the roof.

Jeff Hyland and Susan Pekich from Hilton & Hyland shared the list with Simpson. Angel Salvador from The Agency represented Tesfaye at the sale.
