Oh oh! Not everyone is a fan of it Taylor SwiftFolklore merchandise – but she’s making the necessary changes quickly!
On Saturday, July 25, founder of The Folklore – an online agency that “sells high-end contemporary African designer fashion to customers around the world” – Amira Rasool, criticized the hitmaker for using its brand logo. ‘Wait a second. Taylor Swift, it’s one thing to use the name ‘Folklore’, but are we also stealing black women’s logos here? the CEO wrote in a tweet with a photo of Swift’s ‘Folklore’ vest.
“This morning I found out that musician #TaylorSwift sells merchandise that matches her new album ‘Folklore’. She currently sells merchandise with the words’ The Folklore ‘printed on it,’ Rasool continued in an Instagram post. “Based on the design similarities, I believe the merch designer has ripped off my company’s logo. I share my story to shed light on the trend of large companies / celebrities copying the work of small minority owners. I will not let this blatant theft go unchecked. ‘
The Grammy winner responded quickly and made the necessary changes. “Yesterday, we were notified of a complaint that the specific use of the word ‘the’ before ‘folklore album’ on some of the folklore album merchandise was a cause for concern,” said a statement from Swift’s team, Good morning America. “Absolutely no merchandise that uses ‘it’ before the word ‘folklore album’ is produced or shipped.”
It continues, “We honored her request in good faith and immediately informed anyone who ordered goods that had the word ‘the’ previous ‘folklore album’ that they will now receive their order with the design change.”
After this, Rasool tweeted that she ‘praises’ Swift and her team for acknowledging the mistake. “I recognize that she is a strong supporter of women who protect their creative rights, so it was good to see her team on the same page,” she wrote.
“The Taylor Swift team took a great first step in removing ‘the’ from all merchandise,” she continued in an Instagram post on Wednesday, July 28. “We are talking to her team about the necessary next steps to make this situation right.”
