World champions South Africa have been rocked by scandal after fly-half Elton Jantjies and Springbok dietitian Zeenat Simjee were sent home from Argentina.
Reports in the Rainbow Nation suggested that married Jantjies, who also has three children, and Simjee, who is not believed to be married, had been having an affair.
A South African statement read: “Springbok management is aware of reports of Springbok fly-half Elton Jantjies and team dietician Zeenat Simjee between the training camp in Sabie and the test match against New Zealand in Mbombela earlier this year.
“No team protocols have been violated, but the individuals are returning to South Africa to attend these personal reports and to eliminate all distractions from the team’s preparations for the test against Argentina.
“No further comment will be made at this time.”
The African publication Rapport reported that several sources felt uncomfortable when Simjee and Janties made noise in their guest house all night and into the early hours after the couple booked another accommodation away from the team hotel in South Africa.

He is said to have left without paying a £200 cleaning fee and then building a £1295 bill in a separate guest house in Mbombela.
Report says part of the money was spent on flowers with a note on which Jantjies confessed his love to Simjee.
Jantjies is no stranger to controversy this year.
Simjee and Jantjees would have kept the guests awake until the early hours
He was arrested in May on charges of causing damage on a flight from Dubai to Johannesburg.
The charges were dropped in June, with reports saying they were dropped after he agreed to pay for the damages he caused.
His lawyer Nabeela Moola told AFP the charges had been dropped for the time being “on the basis of statements made to the state.”
The case was later dropped by South African prosecutors, on orders from the senior prosecutor, with no reason given publicly.
Reports suggested married No. 10 Jantjies (pictured) and Simjee were having an affair
Jantjies was generally a backup to Handre Pollard under boss Jacques Nienaber (pictured)
Jantjies, 32, whose club side is Japan’s NTT Red Hurricanes, has generally played second fiddle to first-choice outside half Handre Pollard of Leicester Tigers under current head coach Jacques Nienaber.
Full-back Damian Willemse could also cover the number 10, which could threaten Jantjies’ position for next year’s Rugby World Cup in France.
