Senate Democrats on Thursday released a new $ 350 billion proposal to invest in communities of color suffering from the pandemic, their newest marker as Congress prepares to negotiate the next and possibly final coronavirus package.
The proposal, led by Chuck Schumer, a minority leader in the Senate, is because minorities have been disproportionately affected by the corona virus. It would generate $ 135 billion for childcare, community health, and job training, along with $ 215 billion for infrastructure, Medicaid expansion, and a tax credit for homeowners and renters.
Long before the pandemic, long before this recession, long before this year’s protests, structural inequalities persist in health care and housing, the economy and education, Schumer said in a statement. “Covid-19 has only magnified these injustices to confront them with lasting, meaningful solutions.”
