Stars are Swifties too! Ryan Reynolds, Jack Antonoff and more celebs couldn’t control their excitement Taylor Swift‘s surprise album, Folklore.
The 30-year-old born Nashville announced on July 23 that her eighth studio album would be released the next day. “Surprise,” she tweeted, adding that “all of my whims, dreams, fears and musings” were poured into each of the 16 songs.
“Before this year I probably thought about releasing this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we live in remind me that nothing is guaranteed,” she wrote in a thoughtful letter to her loyal fans. “My feeling tells me that if you make something you love, you just have to bring it into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. ‘
The next day, the Grammy winner opened up about the inspiration behind the stripped-down new record.
“It started with imagery,” she explained in an extensive note on Friday, July 24. “I found myself writing not only my own stories, but also writing about or from the perspective of people I’ve never met, people I’ve never known, or those I wish I hadn’t. Separately, my imagination is running wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness. … Now it’s up to you to pass them on. ‘
In honor of the new album, 36-year-old Antonoff reflected on the collaboration process that led Folklore‘s release.
“Working with Taylor is a full connection to all the marvel of making music,” the producer began a long Instagram tribute on Friday. “She has a protective layer on the process that does not allow cynicism. Zero. Numbers are sacred and the way they sound should keep the script in the right house forever. Finding that with her is magical. Anticipating every album is magical. Thanks for not giving up. … Folklore forever. … @taylorswift forever. ‘
