Paul Scholes says Paul Pogba should NEVER play for Man United again after Liverpool red card

Paul Scholes has wondered if Paul Pogba should play for Manchester United again after his ‘ridiculous’ sending-off against Liverpool.

The French midfielder was named among the substitutes by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but was introduced at halftime with United 4-0 down.

Pogba was directly responsible for Liverpool’s fifth and final goal, scored by Mohamed Salah, after carelessly losing possession in the center circle.

Paul Pogba was sent off just 15 minutes after coming in as a substitute at halftime during Manchester United's 5-0 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

And then he was shown a direct red card in the hour for a dangerous tackle on Naby Keita.

Pogba’s current contract at United expires next summer and Scholes said he wouldn’t be upset if that was his last outing for the club.

He told Premier League Productions: ‘To say a disappointing day would be an understatement.

I think we all realize that it has been difficult, I just think the coach got caught up in the excitement of the comeback. [against Atalanta in the Champions League] Wednesday night.

We keep coming back to that game, but you were never going to do that against Liverpool, they have too much quality.

“ I don’t think it was a lack of effort, I think they tactically set up a way that this could happen and sadly it did.

‘Paul Pogba comes onto the field at halftime to try to help the team and maybe get a little respectability about it, he tries to stand on the ball, he tries to show how strong he is in midfield … goal away.

Then later, he gets kicked out with a ridiculous tackle. You are now 5-0 down with 10 men. You would have to think, if Ole continues to coach there, will we ever see Pogba in the United jersey again?

It has caused chaos in recent years. Everyone knows the talent he has, everyone trusts him, all the coaches trust him, they tried to give him the head and let him be the player that he has been.

But with all the commotion, not signing his contract, almost holding the club for ransom, and then he comes in and does something like that.

“It’s not Ole’s fault, don’t get me wrong, but that’s part of that which almost sums up United’s performance today.

‘Look, it will probably play [again] Won the? But I don’t think they’re missing anything if he doesn’t.

‘He’s had numerous chances, he keeps saying he’s lacking consistency, but that’s just [a lack of] discipline and lack of respect for his coach and his teammates, which he did today. ‘

Solskjaer is under heavy pressure after a humiliating afternoon in which Liverpool beat United. Salah scored a hat-trick after first goals from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota put the visitors in their path.

Scholes had seen the shocking performance coming when he offered a sober assessment of United’s shortcomings minutes after their thrilling comeback over Atalanta on Wednesday night.

Scholes said on BT Sport: ‘You celebrate every win, the first half really worried me, people say I’m miserable but I watched that game thinking about Liverpool at the weekend and playing Manchester City [on November 6].

‘If you play with two central midfielders against them, it will be three or four to zero and you will not come back.

“It was great to see all the shots and crosses in the second half, but that first half worried me. They showed great spirit, but they conceded so many chances, quality players make sure you don’t win that game.

‘Will they play so well against Liverpool? Imagine Jurgen Klopp at home rubbing his hands watching the first half.

‘Atalanta had too much possession, I don’t think acting can be good when you’re two down at home, I’m miserable. I kept coming back to that first part, which was disastrous. ”

United’s next game is away against Tottenham on Saturday.
