Opel Rocks-e: Opel’s electric vehicle for urban mobility is nailed to the Citroën Ami

Opel has presented its proposal for a SUM (Sustainable Urban Mobility) vehicle: the Opel Rocks-e. It is a small, fully electric quadricycle that, in a nutshell, looks a lot like the well-known Citroën Ami. It makes sense that this should be the case, as Opel and Citroën are part of Stellantis.

The new Opel Rocks-e retains much of the Citroën Ami details. It is a small quadricycle, has a range of 75 kilometers according to WLTP and can be ordered from autumn in Germany. However, from Opel they point out that it will expand to other markets in 2022.

The Opel Rocks-e is, as Opel describes it, an “entry-level electric vehicle”. It is a 2.41 x 1.39 meter two-seater, so it is quite compact, and it weighs 471 kilos including the battery. It is designed for urban mobility, so the specifications add up.

Its design is striking, now decorated with the yellow color (outside and inside) and the Opel logo. It is true that it is very similar to the Citroën Ami, see the bodywork or the headlights, as well as the driver’s door that, as in the Ami, opens in the opposite direction.

The tires are 14 inches and their turning radius is 7.20 meters, so you have the ability to make sharp turns with ease. The roof is panoramic and its height is enough to fit “people over 1.90 meters”, according to Opel. Speaking of things that fit, the passenger foot space amounts to 63 liters and will serve to store things.

In terms of battery, speed and size, the Opel Rocks-e rides a 5.5 kWh battery and can be recharged using a household plug in 3.5 hours. The cable is three meters long and is always housed in the car, so it only has to be taken out through the passenger door. In any case, Opel offers an adapter to charge the car at public stations.

Its autonomy is 75 kilometers WLTP and its maximum speed, being a quadricycle, will be 45 km/h. That is to say, we can use it to go through urban roads, but we will not be able to circulate on highways or highways with it. Note that you can drive from the age of 15 with a moped license.

Price of the Opel Rock-e

Opel has not disclosed the price of its new vehicle, but it would be expected that it was not very far from the price of the Citroën Ami. This part of the 6,900 euros without aid with the basic finish, although it has variants with different finishes and additions.
