Obese sisters combined 12 stones after health issues forced them to reconsider their weight

Two sisters who had gained a lot of pounds look unrecognizable after losing more than 12 stones in less than a year.

Amanda and Clare O’Neill, both from London, lost the mammoth amount in just nine months – from 14th 6lbs to 9th 5lbs and 17th 7lbs to 10th 11lbs respectively.

Amanda, 33, was scared to act when a regular Pap smear, which detected abnormal cells, saw her undergo a hysterectomy.

Terrified at the thought of recovering from massive surgery while overweight, the mum-of-one turned to sister Clare, 26, who had also gained weight after battling postpartum depression.

Clare, 26, a mother of two, had already lost a stone thanks to Cambridge Weight Plan’s The 1:1 Diet, while the duo have since lost more than 12 between them.

Amanda, who used to be a size 16 and is now a size 8-10, said, “This is the best thing I’ve ever done.

“When I was told about the possibility of a hysterectomy, it was like a lightbulb to me.

“I was not in good shape and I panicked at the thought of how long it would take for me to recover.

“Having my sister by my side on this journey has been a great support and encouragement.

“The difference it has made in my life is unbelievable. Since losing weight, I’ve been back for another Pap test to see that the abnormalities have improved and I’ve been discharged from the hospital.

“I’ve also cut my medication in half for a condition called Myasthenia gravis.

“I feel so much stronger and have so much more energy. I never realized how much my weight was exhausting me physically. I would avoid photos and hide behind people or loose clothing.

“I can now have my picture taken without hating my appearance.”

Clare, who used to wear a size 22 and is now a six to eight, said: ‘If I tell you my life has changed, it honestly has.

‘I suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of my oldest and only gained weight.

“I was in a vicious circle of eating and dieting, I tried something for a few days and then just gave up.

“I have that up-and-go feeling now, I want to go play with my kids in the park, go out and see my friends.

“I even recently went on a funfair ride with my kids, I would have been too embarrassed if I didn’t fit in.

“Me and my partner probably had the best months of our relationship because I felt sexy, confident and proud.

“I don’t cry in locker rooms anymore. I no longer nag my partner with long conversations about how I will lose weight.

‘Everything is much more positive. Because I feel as good as I do, I see things in a completely different light.’

Clare used to drink about two liters of soda a day, now she has two liters of water a day.

“Takeaway and fizzy drinks are now a treat rather than a daily occurrence,” she added.
