Obese mother of one is unrecognizable after dropping nine rocks in EIGHT months

An obese mother-of-one who feared losing her life to Covid-19 has revealed her incredible transformation after dropping nine stones in eight months.

Rachel Walkingshaw-McGuinness, 30, of Newport, who weighs 19 and 7 pounds, feared her daughter Poppy, one, would be motherless if she caught the coronavirus.

In December 2020, the mother-of-one started the 1:1 diet, by Cambridge Weight Plan, which replaces large portion meals with shakes and healthy alternatives.

She has since gone from size 24 to size 10 and is learning to love her new figure at 10 and 10 pounds.

Rachael, who would spend £200 on four takeaway meals a week before her weight loss, said: ‘I was terrified at the thought of getting the virus and dying. “I didn’t want Poppy to end up with zero memories of me.”

After struggling with the loss of her own mother Jacqueline Murphy, 53, in 2018, Rachael used food to process her grief.

Rachael scoffed at four takeaways a week, costing £200.

“I have always been overweight, but when my mother died, I took a lot of comfort and food as a way to suppress my emotions.

‘I would spend over £200 a week on food alone, it was so easy to just go to McDonald’s for lunch while I was at work.

“It was even scarier when my husband, Jamie, 35, contracted the virus despite being on the foreclosure list.

“Then I decided it was time to do something about it.”

Realizing the potential consequences of her bad habits, Rachael turned to a diet that replaces large portion meals with shakes and healthy alternatives.

She said: “I set a goal of losing nine stones to myself and stuck to the plan during big events like my 30th and Poppy’s 1st birthday.

“I wasn’t confident or confident when I first started the plan, but my advisor was a cheerleader to me the whole time, helping me celebrate every weight loss milestone.

“My goal was to watch Poppy grow up, play with her and run around the park with her.

“It was sad that I tried to avoid mommy and baby groups because I would get out of breath doing the activities.

“I started small by going out of the house and going around the block because I felt too embarrassed to go to the gym.”
