Nokia T20: the return of the brand to tablets after 6 years of hiatus comes with direct 2K panel to compete in price

Depending on your age (and your interest in the mobile sector), you may or may not know that Nokia with HMD was not a birth, but a resurrection. We were clear that they were going to try to conquer that market that they dominated in some way, but not if they were going to focus solely on mobiles, and today it is confirmed that HMD’s Nokia gets into tablet terrain.

The test is the new Nokia T20, a device with a 10.4-inch screen and Android as the operating system. The incursion into the manufacturer’s tablets is not new either, since as we will now see there are precedents, but according to the brand itself has communicated, it was time to respond to what seems to be a marked rise in demand for tablets according to what we saw in 2020 .

Nokia returns to tablets, but old tablets do not return to Nokia

Much has happened since the Nokia N1, and more since the 2008 Nokia 810 which could well be the forerunner of Nokia tablets (and other manufacturers). But it has rained too much for the T20 to have any reminiscence of the design and even more of the performance of these teams.

The new Nokia tablet adapts to the design lines that we are seeing in these devices lately, with a metal back with curved edges, the brand’s logo in the center and the camera in one corner. It is reminiscent of the classic iPad (the design that in new generations only holds on the basic iPad) or the Amazon Fire HD 10 from 2021, with a relatively thin frame for the front, although it comes to have a certain angle like the Xiaomi Pad 5 or the iPad mini (2021).

Being a product designed to be useful both in a family and professional profile, the manufacturer has taken this more discreet option at the design level and not so much its follies of yesteryear, with the option of having something closer to a “ruggedized” device according to his first official accessories. That ambivalent use seeks to be satisfied with its 10.4-inch screen, something that also takes it away from those first tablet attempts.

Beyond the diagonal, what stands out is that in this first attempt at a contained price they already start from a 2K resolution. It remains at 60 Hz, yes, but at the level of brightness and resolution it promises to go something beyond the minimum in the experience.

The promise of plenty of autonomy to endure the day

The tablet is rather modest and powerful, with an 8-core Unisoc socket and versions in 3 and 4 GB of RAM. Part of the 32 GB of storage, although with an option to expand it up to 512GB with a microSD.

Perhaps more interesting is that they have wanted to maintain that commitment to a “clean” Android and as if it were taken from Google’s headquarters, without a layer of personalization and above all guaranteeing updates (Three years of monthly security updates and two years of free operating system updates). It also incorporates Google Kids Space, a mode for children, and Family Link for parental control.

Another feature that stands out is 8,200 mAh battery, which should be enough to give hours of autonomy without fear of getting hung up in this regard. The autonomy promised with it is 15 hours of web browsing, 10 hours of video and 7 hours of video conferences, although the fast charge remains at 15 watts.

For charging it has a USB type C connector (and beware, the adapter that is delivered is 10 W). The Nokia T20 also has a 3.5-millimeter minijack and stereo sound.
