Life is Strange: True Colors

Platform (s): PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Stadia
Release date: September 10, 2021

The Life is Strange series is due out in September and will star an all-new protagonist with all-new powers. And unlike previous entries in the series, Life is Strange: True Colors won’t be episodic – the full story will be released all at once on September 10.

r.

Publisher Square Enix and developer Deck Nine Games, the team behind Life is Strange: Before the Storm 2017, unveiled True Colors on Thursday at the Square Enix Presents digital showcase. Their new game stars Alex Chen, a young Asian-American woman who moves to the fictional town of Haven Springs, Colorado to reunite with her brother Gabe. Alex has supernatural powers in the form of psychic empathy. She can read and manipulate other people’s strong emotions, which she sees as colorful auras, but intense emotions can overwhelm Alex, as seen in the game’s debut trailer.

Alex will use her abilities to uncover the truth behind an unfolding mystery: the death of her brother, described as a “senseless tragic accident,” but appears to be anything but, based on the True Colors trailer. Players will unravel the mystery of Gabe’s death by interacting with a deep cast of characters – two of them, Ryan and Steph, will be instrumental in her journey as potential romantic interests for Alex. (Life is Strange fans will recognize Steph from Before the Storm.)

Alex is brought to life by actor Erika Mori, who both voiced the character and in performance. That performance is enhanced by the artist known as mxmtoon, the musician and social media star (and the occasional Among Us streamer) whose cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” was played during Thursday’s reveal video. mxmtoon will be performing Alex’s singing voice. Other musicians appearing on the game’s soundtrack, a mix of new and licensed songs, include Novo Amor, Phoebe Bridgers, and Gabrielle Aplin.

Life is Strange: True Colors is scheduled for release on Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X on September 10. True Colors will be available in a Deluxe Edition, featuring an exclusive story called Wavelengths starring Steph, and an Ultimate Edition, which will include remastered versions of the original Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm.
