Mitch McConnell leads prayers from Congress for The Queen

Mitch McConnell led lawmakers from both political parties to pray for Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, as members of the royal family gathered by her side at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

“The Queen is an example of stable leadership and a much-loved figure around the world,” Republican leader McConnell said on the Senate floor. “She has been a historical friend of the US. The decades of her reign have seen a profound deepening of the special relationship between our two countries that has literally changed the world.”

“The Queen, the Royal Family and all our friends in the UK have our thoughts and prayers,” he added.

President Joe Biden and Jill Biden remembered the Queen and her family on Thursday after doctors expressed “concerns” about the monk’s health.

The president has briefed on her condition and conveyed his thoughts and prayers to new British Prime Minister Liz Truss.

“I would like to tell you that, of course, the President was briefed this morning and will be kept informed throughout the day on news from the United Kingdom,” White House spokesman John Kirby said. “His and the First Lady’s thoughts are with the Queen today and her family.”

Republicans and Democrats wished the Queen, 96, the best after British doctors revealed they are “concerned” for the monarch’s health and are keeping her under medical supervision.

“May God bless and sustain Queen Elizabeth and the entire Royal Family during this difficult time,” said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Rep. Claudia Tenney, a New York Democrat, said HM is a “leader like no other.”

“My prayers are with Queen Elizabeth today,” Tenney wrote on Twitter. She is a leader like no other in modern history. She has led for generations with incredible poise, honor and integrity. She is an inspiration to me and an example to the world. I wish her a speedy recovery.’

Republican Representative Mark Green of Tennessee tweeted that he was “praying today for the health and comfort of Her Majesty the Queen.”

And Oklahoma Republican Rep. Kevin Horn offered similar sintiments.

Praying for the health of Queen Elizabeth and her family today, he wrote on social media.

The Queen has been to Capitol Hill. In May 1991, she addressed a joint session of Congress, becoming the first British monarch to do so.

She addressed the joint session of Congress as part of her state visit to the US during George HW Bush’s presidency. She was greeted with a standing ovation by lawmakers.

“Some people believe that power comes from the barrel of a gun,” the Queen said in her comments. ‘That is possible, but history shows that it never grows well and does not grow well for long. Power is sterile after all. We are on a better path: our societies are based on mutual agreement, on contract and on consensus.’

The Queen waits in the drawing room before receiving Liz Truss for an audience in Balmoral, Scotland, on Tuesday. Today she is under the supervision of doctors over health concerns

Members of the royal family have gathered at the side of the queen in Scotland.

Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Prince Andrew and Prince William have arrived in Balmoral. Prince Harry, who was in London, is on his way to the Queen’s Scottish residence. Meghan, his wife, stayed in London.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, also stayed behind and was spotted in Windsor to pick up George, Charlotte and Louis after their first full day at their new school.

In an unprecedented statement about the 96-year-old’s health, Buckingham Palace described the queen as “comfortable” after her doctors examined her this morning, hours after she was advised to rest.

The doctors’ statement about the health of the frost is exceptionally rare and suggests that the situation is very serious. And experts said it’s all the more worrying because her entire family is already by her side or on the way.

The Queen postponed a Privy Council meeting at the last minute on Wednesday on doctor’s advice.

She had a busy day on Tuesday greeting both Boris Johnson and Liz Truss at Balmoral, where Johnson left the Prime Minister’s office and Truss was asked by HM to form a government.

The queen was pictured on Tuesday smiling and alert, but still weak, holding a cane and with large bruises on her hands.
