UFC star Michael Chandler has been forced to wear an ice mask to help him recover from the injuries he sustained in his brutal fight with Justin Gaethje.

The 35-year-old was left bloodied and bruised after his loss after three tough rounds at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday.

Now back home to Nashville, Tennessee, Chandler posted a video on Instagram of him explaining why he was wearing the mask to his four-year-old adopted son Hap Whitaker Chandler.

“I have to inform you that your father has made some really bad decisions in his last fight, which resulted in his face being practically unrecognizable,” Chandler said.

Therefore, to speed up the healing process, I would like to use this frozen mask so that you, my son, can see me more clearly very soon.

‘I love you son, I’ll see you at the top.’

The two men beat each other to bloody pulp before Chandler was defeated by scorecard decision.

They were both taken to the hospital after UFC 268 in New York, where the two 155-pound contenders reunited.

Contest winner Gaethje posted a picture on Instagram of the two rivals looking beaten and bruised in hospital, but both fighters were smiling despite the heavy blows they faced.

“All glory to God,” Gaethje headlined in the post. “I wouldn’t leave tonight without a chance to put another strap on Trevor Wittman’s wall.”

Both men came out hitting the hurdles and in the first round, the odds of both of them hearing the final bell in the third would have been long.

But somehow they both survived the fight and it was Gaethje who came up with the cleaner job, although his opponent deserves great credit for turning it into a great show.

Both combatants exchanged strong blows that caused several bruises and marks on their faces.
