Business is booming.

Marcus Rashford wants to stay at Man United but he would be a perfect fit for Galtier's PSG vision

Paris Saint-Germain are in the market for a striker this summer and have identified Marcus Rashford as someone they would like to bring to the Parc des Princes for the 2022-23 season.

Christophe Galtier thinks Rashford would suit their style of play and has identified the England international as a valuable replacement for Lionel Messi when he finally hangs up his boots.

PSG will face an uphill battle to secure its services, however, as United are committed to retaining the 24-year-old. Sports post recently revealed their plans to hand Rashford a new long-term contract with the club.

Rashford is also reluctant to leave United for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as he regularly needs minutes to work his way into Gareth Southgate’s squad for the tournament.

But that doesn’t mean the England forward won’t be joining Ligue 1 in the future. So… with a possible transfer in the offing, Sports post looked at how Rashford could capitalize on the French champions.

It remains unlikely that Rashford will leave United to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer, as he gears up for England’s World Cup campaign in Qatar and needs regular minutes.

Rashford is in danger of being kicked out of the England squad after struggling to form at Manchester United under their previous manager Ralf Rangnick. The 24-year-old also underwent shoulder surgery, which left him out of action for an extended period of time.

Southgate even said Rashford and fellow Manchester United team-mate Jadon Sancho had a lot of work to do before securing their seats on the plane to the Middle East.

Three Lions boss said ahead of their Nations League clash with Hungary: ‘We only have one’ [Man United player] with us. They have [Rashford and Sancho] still have a lot to do to get back into the squad.’

However, under new manager Erik ten Hag, Rashford has rediscovered his form. He shot for the Red Devils on their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia and is likely to take on more responsibility this season given United’s lack of forwards.

But if Rashford were to defy all odds and complete a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, he would likely enjoy his time at the Ligue 1 club.

Rashford is said to have a close relationship with Mbappé and he regularly liked Instagram posts from the 23-year-old. However, the bromance is not one-sided. Mbappé also shares the love on Rashford’s page.

Mbappe also praised Rashford in 2020, claiming he had the ultimate respect for the Manchester United forward after scoring a penalty in their Champions League clash.

After the game, the Frenchman said: “If you take a penalty in that situation, it doesn’t matter how much training you have done on the training pitch.

“It’s about confidence and he’s a player who plays with so much confidence. He is one of the most dangerous attackers in England. Paul (Pogba) has talked about how special he is – and he doesn’t talk about players that much.

“Tackling a problem as important as child poverty is one of the most important things anyone can do – so I have all the respect that he has done that and is trying to make a real change.

“I think there is a requirement for players to use their position to make a difference in the world. We have been given so much and it is important that we give something back.

On the football side of the transfer, getting Rashford into the PSG folder would be tough as Mauricio Pochettino struggled to get Messi, Mbappe and Neymar all on the front line which worked effectively.

However, it could be done under Galtier. But to understand how, it’s important to look back at the French manager’s formation history.

During his time at Saint-Etienne, Galtier used a 4-3-3 when he wanted to play with a single pivot. His team also had the option to switch to 4-2-3-1 when they wanted more defensive security.

Galtier then joined Lille and used a double spindle. After two full seasons with the club, he changed their formation to 4-4-2 and won the title during the 2020-21 season.

Galtier also spent a season at Nice before moving to Paris Saint-German. He led the French side to fifth in the competition and won a runner-up medal in the Coupe de France while playing a 4-4-2 formation.

Therefore, Galtier is more than capable of carving and altering his formations. As it stands, he is in favor of a 3-5-2 formation at PSG. Allowing Messi and Mbappe to attack with freedom while Neymar takes the number 10 role.

However, Rashford’s arrival could see him adopt a 4-2-3-1 formation. This would see Messi take control on the right side of the pitch, Rashford on the left and Neymar in No. 10 to support them both.

Rashford’s preferred position is on the right, but it seems unlikely that he would be chosen for that position over Messi. So… the England international better work on that left foot if he’s really considering a transfer.

Alternatively, Galtier could go for a 3-4-3 formation. However, that would mean he would have to drop an attacker. Not easy to do!

Let’s say Rashford was a shoo-in, that would put Mbappe, Messi and Neymar at risk. Then of those three, realistically it would be Neymar who would face the fall.
