Former Real Madrid captain Marcelo is one step closer to retirement as the offers to continue his career are not appealing enough for him.

The Brazilian left-back played for the Spanish club for 15 years before leaving at the end of the 2021-22 season – after winning 25 titles with Real, the most of all players with the side.

However, according to a report in Marcathe 34-year-old has no interest in going to Qatar or MLS in America for the next stage of his career, despite reported offers on the table.

Other teams previously linked with a transfer for Marcelo have included Valladolid from La Liga, France’s Lyon, Italy’s AC Milan or Turkey’s Fenerbahce team.

It was also considered that he might return to his native Fluminense where he played his youth career before moving to Madrid.

But as no deals have been struck, and none of the offers that appeal to Marcelo’s current state of affairs, it appears he is closer to retirement than a second wind as a player.

Instead, Marcelo focused on his entrepreneurial role, with left-back owner of Brazilian club Azuriz and Portuguese second-divisionist Mafra.

With the top Brazilian club, Marcelo and his partners aim to promote Azuriz’s training function, after years of experience with Real Madrid’s ‘Campus 12’, which has helped young stars aspire to a future in football.

Mafra is considered a bridge that allows a better transfer of talent from South America to the European game.

Marcelo was not the only player whose contract expired at the Bernabeu this summer, but Gareth Bale has moved to MLS side Los Angeles FC and Isco Alarcon has moved to La Liga rival Sevilla, meaning he is the only loose end.

It is thought that Marcelo could land an ambassadorial role at Real Madrid, or become an institutional representative for the club, if he chooses to hang up his shoes due to a lack of incentives in a playing capacity.
