Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Manchester United have overcome the humiliation of a 5-0 win against Liverpool two weeks ago when they face Manchester City at home on Saturday.

Former United favorites Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes warned that United could face further embarrassment against Pep Guardiola’s team, but Solskjaer believes his players are in good spirits after winning away at Tottenham and achieving a late draw at Atalanta in the middle of the week.

Recalling what he called his’ darkest day ‘in football against Liverpool, a result that put his job in jeopardy, Solskjaer said:’ We have passed Liverpool. It’s a dark time in our careers, but we’ve had a good two weeks. You don’t expect an easy trip when you become a Man United manager, that’s right.

“ When I walked in here in December 2018, three years ago, there has been speculation ever since. That’s not a problem.

We have moved on from that. Of course it will be in the history books, but we have had a good week with good results away from home.

‘We have to go into this game believing that we can do good things. It is a local derby and everyone knows what is at stake ”.

Solskjaer has a good record against City since replacing José Mourinho, winning four and drawing one of the clubs’ eight meetings, including a 2-0 win over City in the last Old Trafford derby to be played against fans in March 2020.

“I’m not one to talk about what I’ve done,” Solskjaer added. ‘I have great respect and admiration for Pep and what he has done. We have had good results and tight matches, we need another performance like this.

Sometimes you need luck. We know that this game we have to suffer a lot but we have to believe and trust ourselves because we are at home and we have had a couple of good results.

Is special. The last time we had a Manchester derby with fans in the stadium the atmosphere was electric, everyone will remember that more than dark moment we had.

When Scott (McTominay) scored that goal in overtime it was a special moment. It is a unique party and we have to be prepared because a lot depends on who takes the lead ”.
