Paul Ince has delivered a scathing assessment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s training methods at Manchester United and questioned whether his backroom staff are up to the job.

The Norwegian is under great pressure to turn United’s fortunes after their embarrassing 5-0 loss to rival Liverpool last weekend.

Former United midfielder Ince says the Red Devils can’t expect the former Cardiff and Molde coach to turn things around with the staff he has.

He told the YouTube channel United stand: ‘You can’t have a coach take down Cardiff, then go to Molde and hope to get into the biggest club in the world and produce a team that will challenge the best teams in the world with the staff that he has.

‘You have an under-23 coach (Kieran McKenna) who comes from the academy. He has Michael Carrick, no coaching experience. Micky Phelan: I don’t know what he does. That is your team.

This is your coaching staff. So, you go through that with the world-class players that you have on the team and we keep mentioning tactics and not getting the best out of the players.

Look at that cane. This is the staff that Ole says is ‘very good, brilliant’. He’s a bunch of idiots because they concede goals for fun.

‘Are they doing defensive work? Do you know where the players should be when the ball is in a certain position?

In fact, I would like to go to Carrington and see a week of what they do in training. I would love to see it. I don’t know if they’re playing five, a little volleyball and all that crap, head tennis. I don’t know what they are doing but I would like to go.

I’d like Ole to invite me over for a week and say, ‘Paul, this is what we’re doing and this is how we do it,’ because I don’t see anything on the weekend that tells me that. We work on this, we work on that. ‘

Solskjaer’s job is secure for now despite their recent slump in a way that has seen them fail to win any of their last four Premier League games.

United’s next three games against Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester City could determine their fate.

Antonio Conte, Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane and Erik ten Hag are among the names that have been linked to United’s position should the club eventually fire the Norwegian.
