A man has revealed that he traded his wife’s cat for a lookalike six years ago and said she never realized it.

The anonymous man, presumably from the US, took reddit where he confessed to throwing out his partner’s beloved feline while she was away with family for a lookalike who wasn’t “aggressive” and didn’t scratch guests.

However, he admitted he’s been feeling guilty ever since — and it wasn’t long before social media users agreed that he had every reason to feel terrible for the “unforgivable” act.

“You can’t give someone’s pet away to a shelter without informing them,” one raged, while a second agreed: “I would definitely consider divorce if I ever found out about this.”

In the first post he wrote: ‘Six years ago I exchanged the cat of my then girlfriend, now wife, for a more well-behaved look.

“She had an all-black cat that was extremely aggressive. He scratched everyone, hissed at everyone and didn’t use his litter box half the time. My wife insisted she could make it behave better.”

However, he confirmed that she was unsuccessful.

“One week she went out of town to visit her family and I would go to her apartment to feed her,” he continued. “The first night I went there, it scratched my arm. I joked to the cat that it is not special and that I will replace it if it scratches again. The joke stayed with me until I thought about it enough that it wasn’t a joke.’

The man explained how it has been six years since he switched the cat, and admitted that every time he sees it, he feels like a 'total piece of s***'

He went on to explain how he took a trip to the local the next morning animal shelter and chose an identical cat that was “already trained in the litter box and used to people” – adding that it was “a lot of friendlier and better behaved.’

The man continued: “So I adopted it, took it to my wife’s apartment, put it in and then drove her original cat to an animal shelter a town away (I was paranoid that my wife would find out if I took it to a local cat). bring).

‘It has been six years now. We got married 4 years ago. We still have the swapped cat. It lives up to the name of the original cat. My wife knows nothing.

“She loves this cat and brags about how much better behaved she is. Every time I see it I feel like a piece of shit.’

While some joked that they “wouldn’t rest” until the couple went their separate ways, others urged him never to reveal the secret to his wife.

‘Definitely not something anyone would benefit from if they knew,’ wrote one of them, while a second wrote, ‘Never tell yourself, even when it’s dark, or else the scary black cat will chase your dreams. ‘

A third added: “I will not rest until these two are separated.”

Elsewhere, a fourth wrote: “If this guy were to literally do something as big as replace his wife’s pet, I can’t imagine what other things he definitely lied and or hid about.”
