Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and New York Giants’ star running back Saquon Barkley have been named NFL Offensive Players of the Week for the opening round, while Uchenna Nwosu and Minkah Fitzpatrick win defensive trophies

Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Giants turning back Saquon Barkley, has been named the NFL’s Offensive Players of the Week for the opening round of games.
The talented pair carried both their teams to Week One’s victories and were awarded the Best Players of the Week title – and it’s not the first time for Mahomes.
Superstar QB has been named Offensive Player of the Week eight times in his career, including three in opening weekend, in 2018, 2021 and now in 2022.

Saquon Barkley also impressed the Giants when they came from behind to beat the Titans
On the defensive side of the ball, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu also took home awards.
Special team awards were also presented in the AFC and NFC, with Cleveland Browns kicker Cade York winning first, and Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Zech McPhearson taking the NFC title.
Barkley – the face of the Giants franchise – rushed for a leading 164 yards with one touchdown in his team’s comeback 21-20 win over the Titans.
He will receive his third Offensive Player of the Week title, the second most by any Giants going back in history behind Tiki Barber’s seven.

Minkah Fitzpatrick of the Pittsburgh Steelers also won an NFL award this week
Barkley also joins quarterback Kerry Collins (five) and running backs Larry Johnson (four) and Gary Brown (three) as Penn State offensive players to win the award at least three times.
Nwosu, meanwhile, on his Seahawks debut, registered seven tackles, one sack, one pass defend and one forced fumble in Seattle’s win over Denver on Monday night.
It is his first career Defensive Player of the Week award, and he is the first USC linebacker to be named Defensive Player of the Week since Clay Matthews (Week 9, 2010).
It is also Fitzpatrick’s first defensive honors, having made a career high with 14 tackles and a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown in Pittsburgh’s win over Cincinnati.
