Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus urges Erling Haaland to SNUB to his former club because he would “ be a better fit at Real Madrid ” and he should risk playing alongside Kylian Mbappé
- Lothar Matthaus can’t see Erling Haaland at Bayern Munich with Lewandowski
- Germany’s legends feel that a move would only be possible if the Polish ace goes
- Matthaus has publicly stated that Haaland would be a better fit at Real Madrid
- He believes that the opportunity to potentially play with Kylian Mbappé should be seized.
Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus this week urged Erling Haaland to move to Real Madrid when he leaves Borussia Dortmund, rather than join his old club in Bavaria.
German legend Matthaus rates Haaland as one of the best players in the game at the moment, but feels he will suit Madrid better than staying in the Bundesliga to play for Bayern.
Matthaus hasn’t ruled out a trade to Allianz, but feels Haaland can’t and won’t make the switch, while talisman Robert Lewandowski remains Bayern’s main man at the top.

Instead, he believes Madrid will step up for Haaland’s services this summer when his release clause kicks in, and he should accept this offer as the prospect of playing alongside Kylian Mbappé may well be on the table.
Matthaus said through the Spanish newspaper Mark: ‘Haaland can end up at Bayern after (Robert) Lewandowski. But not with him.
“Haaland would be a better fit for Real Madrid with (Kylian) Mbappé.”
Matthaus has pointed out that Haaland could probably be linked with Kylian Mbappé in Spain
Madrid have been linked to a Mbappé move for many years, bidding £ 137 million in the summer even though the Frenchman only had one season left on his contract with PSG.
The Ligue 1 giants rejected all advances despite the player’s insistence that he wanted to move on and accept a new challenge.
Madrid published a final offer of a mind-blowing £ 154 million, but PSG once again stood firm and refused to part with their precious asset, despite signing Lionel Messi as well.
Now, it is understood that Madrid will bring in Mbappé as a free agent at the end of the season as a summer signing, but speculation is also accelerating regarding more major moves.
The Spanish giants have not sanctioned any big signings for various transfer windows now, and they are also expected to register their interest with Dortmund for Haaland’s services.
Matthaus is not ruling out a move from Bayern Munich, but says it won’t happen as long as talisman Robert Lewandowski is still at the Allianz and scoring goals as the main man.
The Norwegian will be subject to global offers at the end of the season as his £ 64m release clause comes into play. It is reported that this could also happen as early as January.
Haaland is currently out of the game until the new year with a hip injury, although he has already scored nine goals and four assists in six Bundesliga games this season.
He also has one goal in two Champions League appearances and three goals in a single match played in the DFB Pokal German Cup.
