London woman crippled by breasts that keep growing

A woman has revealed how she is crippled with pain from her ever-expanding breasts weighing the 2nd.

Melissa-Mae Lita, 23, from London, now wears a bra size 36M, but her breasts are still growing and causing so much pain that she has trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

The student nruse said her breasts first started developing when she was about 10 years old and have grown constantly since then.

Leading up to her teenage years, Melissa wore two bras to support her breasts, and she had an H cup at age 16.

Melissa is desperate for a breast reduction but was rejected by NHS doctors and told to lose weight before even being referred to a specialist.

She said, “When I started high school, I thought the way my breasts grew was going to be a problem.

“I wore two bras at once to support them and also to try and hide them and to fit in with my peers.”

“As I got older and they continued to grow, people always thought I was much older than I was. I got disgusting comments from men, it was horrible.’

“I have received hateful messages and have been bullied online with inappropriate messages and videos sent to me. It was traumatizing and to this day I still have bad memories of it.

“I am now a size 36M and they are a combined weight of 2nd.”

“I’ve been to the doctor many times because of my breasts, who told me to come back when I lost weight.”

“I’ve been told I have hypertrophic breasts — a condition where breasts become so heavy that they cause problems — but nothing has been done to help me.”

“I even tried to contact my local MP to see if I could get help in any other way.”

“They hurt me all you can think of because they’re so heavy.

“I suffer from back pain every day and some days I find it hard to get up and get out of bed because of the pain in my back.

“I have to rock myself back and forth to get up and ease the pain.

“My breasts make it so hard for me to sleep because when I sleep on my back, the pain is unbearable because of the enormous weight on my chest. If I’m on my stomach or on my side, it hurts too.’

As a senior student nurse, Melissa is concerned that the size and rapid growth of her breasts will affect her nursing career as she struggles to fit into her uniform and has burning back pain during her placement shifts.

She says her breasts make it difficult for her to move patients and she fears it will only get worse as she gets older.

Melissa added: ‘I can’t even find bras that fit me anymore, and when I do find one, they are so expensive and they don’t fit me long before my breasts drain and they become too small.

“They also give me really serious cuts in my shoulders and on my sides as they dig so deep into my skin.

“I’ve pretty much given up on bras and just wear bodysuits or tight bralettes under my baggy clothes.

‘I can’t wear any of the clothes I’d like to wear. I usually have to dress much more modestly to avoid unwanted attention.’

“If I don’t hide in baggy clothes, it’s like people think I’m a piece of meat. They try to touch me, I get a call and I get humiliating remarks.’

“My biggest fear is complications in my health that lead to physical disabilities, because I haven’t found a solution yet. It’s disheartening to have to think like that at such a young age.’

TYPES OF GIGANTOMASTIA – THE CONDITION BEHIND CHEST OVERAPPLICATION

Gigantomastia can be divided into several subtypes. The subtypes are related to the event that may have triggered the condition.

  • Pregnancy or pregnancy-induced gigantomastia occurs during pregnancy. This subtype is thought to be caused by pregnancy hormones, usually during the first trimester. It occurs in only 1 in 100,000 pregnancies.
  • Puberty-induced or juvenile gigantomastia occurs during adolescence (between 11 and 19 years), probably due to sex hormones.
  • Drug- or drug-induced gigantomastia occurs after taking certain medications. Most commonly, it is caused by a drug known as D-penicillamine, which is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, Wilson’s disease, and cystinuria.
  • Idiopathic gigantomastia occurs spontaneously, without apparent cause. This is the most common type of gigantomastia.

“I even found lumps in my breasts and had to be referred several times for ultrasounds.”

“I’ve even burned my breasts on a stove before and didn’t even realize it for a while because they’re so big.”

“I’ve tried to lose weight, but it’s not helping. Going from a 34H to a 36L to 36M, I see that despite my weight loss, my breasts will continue to grow at an alarming rate until I can do something about it.

“I find it very sad that people who really need a breast reduction are not offered because it would literally change my life.

“It feels as if there is a lack of understanding of the difficulties women living in the same circumstances face every day, and denial of the proper treatment that is needed can lead to a further decline in their health and well-being.

“It would relieve me of all my pain. I think I would cry every day with happiness.

“I can’t stand my boobs getting bigger, I don’t know how to deal with it.”
