Liverpool have no intention of letting midfielder Naby Keita leave this window.

Amid interest from former club Red Bull Leipzig, the 27-year-old is considering his future after talks about a new contract have stalled and he is entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Liverpool are willing to risk losing him for free next summer but still hope to find a solution over new terms.

The Anfield club have nevertheless assessed possible midfield options in the near term, although Jurgen Klopp has emphasized that he sees no solutions in the current transfer market, with Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham expected to join next summer.

Keita has had a stop-start career since moving to Anfield for £53 million in 2018.

Injuries have sometimes halted his progress, with the Guinea international playing just 28 league games in total in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

His fitness was less of an issue last season as he made 40 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, helping Klopp’s side win a domestic cup double.

However, he missed Liverpool’s opening day draw against Fulham earlier this month due to illness, and was an unused substitute in their home game against Crystal Palace on Monday.

With Klopp up against Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho ahead of him against the Eagles, Keita may feel like he has fallen down the pecking order in recent months after being given regular playing time towards the end of last season.

Still, Liverpool are looking to hold on to him for now, especially given their mid-park injury problems, with Thiago Alcantara and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain sidelined, while captain Jordan Henderson has also been lacking in his best fitness lately.
