Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Naby Keita will be ‘out for a while’ after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw with Brighton, but confirmed that Thiago and Fabinho were ready to return for the Atlético de Madrid on Wednesday.

Keita was forced to retire after just 19 minutes after sustaining the muscle injury and is now ready for another spell on the sidelines.

The midfielder had just recovered from Paul Pogba’s two-foot lunge the week before to appear at the Seagulls’ visit to Anfield on Saturday, but Klopp has revealed that he will now be without Keita for the foreseeable.

“Naby has a hamstring injury, so he will be out for a while,” Klopp told reporters at his press conference Tuesday.

However, the Liverpool manager received a double boost for Atlético’s visit to Anfield on Wednesday, with Fabinho and Thiago in line to take part in the Champions League clash.

Klopp added: ‘Milner [is out]. Thiago and Fabinho trained normally and are in contention, which helps. ”

However, Klopp has revealed that Thiago (photo left, front) and Fabinho (right) are ‘in contention’ to face Atlético de Madrid this Wednesday.

Thiago has been out of action since Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on 18 September after sustaining a calf injury, while Fabinho has missed Liverpool’s last two games after being hit in the knee at 3-1. 2 over Atlético the last time the two teams met last month.

Klopp also said he shouldn’t expect a handshake from Diego Simeone after the game on Wednesday, as the Atlético manager believes they are “fake.”

After his team’s 3-2 victory over Atlético at the Wanda Metropolitano a fortnight ago, the Reds coach could only watch his opposite number rush down the tunnel at the final whistle without any recognition.

Klopp was initially upset but later downplayed any lasting tension, but Simeone has said that post-match pranks aren’t something he wants to get involved in.

“I do not like the greeting after the game because it is the emotions of two sides in different emotional minds,” he said.

“I know that in the UK it is a custom, but I do not share it and I do not like the falsehood that it can include.

“I don’t know Klopp very well as a person, but I know he is a great coach who has done a great job in all the clubs he has been to.”
