Triumphant: Linda Evangelista triumphantly returned to modeling after a six-year absence due to a reaction to a fat-freezing procedure that she claims disfigured her face
Linda returned to modeling in July with a Fendi fashion shoot after she retired from work in 2016 after claiming six years ago that a rare reaction to a fat reduction procedure had left her “disfigured.”
The surgery was intended to reduce her fat cells, but they grew in size instead — resulting in her developing “bulges” all over her body, due to a condition called paradoxical fat hyperplasia.
PAH is a rare side effect of cryolipolysis, having been reported in 0.0051 percent of the 1.5 million CoolSculpting procedures performed worldwide.
Linda has since had two liposuction surgeries in an attempt to fix the problem, announcing in February that she was done living in “shame.”

She recently said that she is still “trying to love herself” after becoming “so depressed” following the erroneous procedure, and that using the tape resolves her “insecurities” so she could feel confident while “acting.” what she prefers to do’. do’ again.
She explained, “That’s not my jaw and neck in real life — and I can’t walk around with tape and elastics everywhere.” I try to love myself as I am.
“But for the pictures… Look, for pictures I always think we’re here to create fantasies. We create dreams. I think it is allowed. All my insecurities are captured in these photos, so I have to do what I love most.’
Throughout the 90s, Linda was one of the biggest models in the industry, posing for numerous well-known magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Elle and Marie Claire, and showing her stuff in runway shows for major brands such as Chanel, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani, just to name a few.
WHAT IS PARADOXIC ADIPOSE HYPERPLASIA (PAH)?
Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia is a rare, previously not reported side effect of cryolipolysis.
Cryolipolysis uses cooling to damage and destroy subcutaneous fat cells without damaging the skin to reduce the amount of fat in the treated area.
This phenomenon of PAH has a reported incidence of 0.0051% of the 1.5 million CoolSculpting procedures performed worldwide. Many doctors see numerous cases in their offices.
PAH causes a gradual enlargement of the treated area. It occurs when the stimulus (freezing of fat cells) activates a reactionary process in the adipose tissue that makes the fat cells thicker and larger instead of breaking them down and allowing the body to process and remove them.
PAH is only known to occur after cryolipolysis or CoolSculpting body contouring treatment.
PAH usually cannot be confirmed until about 6 months after the procedure, with patients complaining of getting bigger in the exact shape of the applicator, as pictured below.
