A professional cleaning lady has discovered an ‘amazing’ function in her dishwasher to clean dirty cutlery.
Liesl Elizabeth, who runs the cleaning service Clean-Freak Cleaning Co. in Perth, shared a video showing the knives and forks being placed in the top rack while the dishwasher is loading.
Usually used for long knives, larger utensils and chopsticks, the mother of three was able to stack the cutlery perfectly between the ledges of the drawer.
‘I was years old today… learned the obvious,’ she joked into her TikTok video.
With three kids under her roof and a business to run, she said she simply shot the video after being “stunned” by the little-known feature.
Her video has since been viewed more than 14,000 times, with many confessing that they never knew the slot portion in the top rack was for flatware.
“I really didn’t know this and my father-in-law came over and did this… I was stunned,” one woman wrote, laughing.
A woman said, “Is this witchcraft?” while another wrote: “It looked like a lot of teeth whose purpose I didn’t quite understand.”
While someone added, ‘Oh my god, I feel so stupid’ to which Liesl replied, ‘Mine too. I’ve had my dishwasher for years but didn’t know that cutlery fits in this drawer. I used it for large knives and lids.’
Many said they were aware of the feature, with one saying, “Didn’t people know?” while another said, ‘How else would you do it?’

And another said, “It’s literally illustrated in the owner’s manual,” to which Liesl replied, “But who has time to read that?”
Some said their dishwasher only comes with a cutlery basket, while others said they don’t have the ‘patience’ to stack smaller items individually in the top rack.
‘It’s so much easier to just throw in the basket,’ one wrote, while another said, ‘I wouldn’t have the patience. Just throw them in.’
Liesl was amused by the response, saying, ‘Believe me, this was for show. There’s no chance I’ll do this every time.”
Earlier this year, CHOISE‘s consumer expert Ashley Iredale addressed the question of whether a cutlery basket or tray is best for cleaning.
“We’ve found it makes no difference — it comes down to personal preference,” he said.
‘I’m a basket man. I find loading and unloading each item individually in the drawer a time consuming chore, and the cutlery tray also reduces the height of other items you can put in the dishwasher.”
