LG Ultrafine OLED Pro: this monstrous 65-inch 4K UHD monitor is a dream for creating content “in a big way”

LG has just announced the upcoming arrival in Spanish stores of a new monitor. But it is not one more. And it is that it is, neither more nor less, than a screen of 65 inches with OLED panel designed to offer accurate color reproduction and very wide tonal coverage. These characteristics clearly reveal its vocation to compete in the segment of high-end monitors for content creation.

Just take a look at its specifications to realize that this device has inherited much of the technology that we can find in the OLED televisions launched by this brand this year. However, as we are about to find out, when it comes to color management and its calibration possibilities goes one step further, which indicates that it has been conceived above all for photographic retouching, video editing and post-production.

It works for everything, but aspires to shine with video editing and photo retouching

The heart of this monitor is its 10-bit OLED panel with 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160 dots) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. On paper this panel is essentially identical to which we can find in current LG OLED televisions. And also in those of many other brands of TVs. And, of course, it retains its main strengths, among which we can highlight very wide viewing angles (178º in vertical and horizontal dimensions according to LG), a minimum response time (1 ms GtG) and a very precise color reproduction. .

This monitor can be calibrated by hardware with both CalMAN and SuperSign WB, which is a tool created by LG itself.

It is precisely in this last area, that of color reproduction, in which this monitor stands out from televisions. And it is possible calibrate it by hardware both with CalMAN and SuperSign WB, which is a tool created by LG itself to optimize the color reproduction of its devices for digital signage applications. Another interesting feature that it has to perform better in this usage scenario is a tool that continuously monitors the video signal to carry out the necessary color corrections.

Like LG OLED TVs, this monitor is capable of processing Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG content. And when it comes to connectivity, this brand has done its homework well. Incorporates of the HDMI 2.1 connectors, two other DisplayPort 1.4, SDI interface, three USB ports (one of them type C), etc. It is not but not bad.

In the table that we publish a little higher you can take a look at all its specifications. What we still do not know is if LG has implemented in this monitor any additional solution to the functions that its OLED televisions have to combat image retention on the panel. This is the Achilles heel of the display devices that go for organic panels, but there are solutions that manage to combat retention quite effectively.

Take care of the image, but do not forget the sound

That’s how it is. One of the more unusual features of this screen is a tool for audio level measurement designed to work expressly with content mastered with Dolby Audio. This feature reveals, once again, its vocation to establish itself as an attractive monitor for professionals in video editing, color grading and color editing. Of course, it works perfectly for anything else. Even to play. But there is no doubt that its price will place it out of reach of many users.

LG Ultrafine OLED Pro: price and availability

We have spoken with the Spanish subsidiary of LG, and, unfortunately, they have confirmed that not available yet the price of this monitor. And neither does the date it will hit stores. However, we can be sure that it will not be cheap at all. Monitors with a professional vocation for content creation are never, especially if they are large format. And this is it. It is likely to be noticeably more expensive than the more advanced 65-inch OLED TVs that LG currently has in its catalog.
