Brendan Rodgers has admitted Leicester would consider an offer for Wesley Fofana, but warned Chelsea that neither offer came close to its real value.

The Blues’ second bid for Fofana would have been close to £65million, but Leicester estimate the 21-year-old to be over £80million, the current world record for a defender.

When asked if there had been a third bid for Fofana, Rodgers replied: “Not that I know of. There were two (bids) but again nowhere near what the club would even think of. The point to reiterate is that we don’t want to sell Wesley, that’s the main point.

“He is not a player we are actively looking for, but if there is interest from other clubs, the club will of course look into it.

“He’s a young top defender and there aren’t many at his age. He’s someone we’d like to keep here, but we’ll have to wait and see what develops.”

Rodgers has repeatedly said that Fofana’s best option would be to stay at Leicester.

The club personally accepts that although he signed a new five-year deal in March, it may be difficult to keep him for more than one season.

However, Fofana would like to move forward as soon as possible, although it is unclear whether Chelsea are willing to meet Leicester’s asking price.

Rodgers added: “At least another year here for him would be very important for his development, but he is quite calm and relaxed in the situation. He is aware of the interest.

“He understands where we stand as a club and where we see him. He’s just going well with his work and education, and if there’s some communication, we can have a conversation.’
