Kanye West misses the deadline to qualify for the South Carolina vote

Rapper Kanye West has not filed a petition necessary to appear in South Carolina’s 2020 presidential election by Monday’s deadline, the state election committee said despite holding the first and only rally of his presidential campaign there Sunday.

West had a 12-hour deadline to submit 10,000 signatures to appear on the ballot paper, but failed, South Carolina election committee spokesman Chris Whitmire said.

After previously declaring himself a supporter of President Donald Trump and teasing a future presidential run, West announced his campaign at the White House on July 4. Amid questions about how serious his plans to run were, the rapper last week filed a candidacy with the Federal Election Commission, citing “BDY” – the birthday party – as his party affiliation.
