Kamala Harris, the first-year senator in California, tore her presidential run close to the campaign on Tuesday according to two sources, which meant a faint end to an initially rising presidential bid based on her personal biography and persecution. Eventually, her run ended with a confused goal, campaign struggle and an inability to receive support from vital democratic voting blocks, especially African Americans.

Harris, 55, was seen as a rising star, representing the more youthful and diverse voters who have become the basis of the Democratic party. Her controversial interrogations of Trump government officials in Senate hearings advanced her to national fame and her dazzling campaign launch set her at the top of a busy democratic field.

But Harris struggled to refocus some other reason for her candidacy, and the campaign attempted to divert halfway through the year for a final attempt to conquer Iowa, a state she initially had little emphasis on in her primary strategy.

Harris was born in Oakland and grew up primarily in Berkeley. She is the daughter of immigrants: Shyamala Gopalan, researcher of breast cancer in India, and Donald Harris, a Jamaican economist who taught at Stanford University.

Her biracial background was initially seen as an important asset at a time when African-Americans, Latinos and Asians are important blocs in the Democratic coalition. But Harris's uneven performance in the campaign, especially her fumbling with health care, caused a lower poll score and she never recovered.
