Neco Williams may not be seeing much playing time right now, but Jurgen Klopp has big plans for the youngster, especially after seeing him star in Wales.

While Klopp has only given Williams one EFL Cup start this season, Dragons backup coach Rob Page has relied on the 20-year-old, who played 90 minutes against Belarus and Belgium in this international break.

Williams scored from the left back in a 5-1 blowout over Belarus, before attacking the left back to hold the world No. 1 Roberto Martinez to a 1-1 draw.

With 17 caps already, Wales have been crucial to Williams’ development, but Page hinted that he wants more opportunities for him at the national level. Klopp sympathizes, but doesn’t follow the advice.

We are really short of players. The last thing I’m thinking about is who could go on loan in the winter, “said the Reds coach.

‘In Neco’s case, I can fully understand that my colleague from Wales [Page] He said he thinks it would make sense for them to play.

But they are almost or may qualify for the World Cup with a lot of players who are not the first choice on their teams.

“So I think it makes perfect sense for Neco to develop here every day, and that’s what he’s doing.”

In all but two of Williams’ games, with the Liverpool shirt, he has started on the right of the defense, but with Wales he has changed flank.

The 20-year-old academy graduate has a difficult task getting into the first team, with Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold to fight as a winger. Klopp is still deciding how he wants to mold Williams.

“Neco is a young player and he plays for Liverpool, which is a pretty good football team. It’s not so easy to get into the first team, maybe in his natural position, ‘added the German coach.

‘I’m not sure if the right-back really is [his] natural position, but if it is Trent Alexander-Arnold.

‘But Neco, I saw pictures of his performances [for Wales] and he did very well, especially offensively, a great opportunity against Belgium in the last minute or so.

‘It’s about pushing. That is what you are doing, so you are not doing anything wrong. So it’s about the opportunity arising. ‘
