Keane called Harry Maguire’s celebration against Albania last week “disgraceful.” The television expert said at the ITV break: ‘He puts his hand to his ear. It’s like shutting up the critics, but I think that’s embarrassing.

“The last few months have been a shame for Manchester United. He thinks he’s writing down there, he’s going to silence his critics. Embarrassing.’

So while congratulating Maguire on Twitter for breaking his record on Monday night, Terry wrote: ‘Congratulations buddy. England’s highest scoring defender. Let’s see if some of these experts talk about it. ‘

Terry’s most recent Tweet came shortly after he endorsed Micah Richards, who took to social media to disagree with Keane’s comments about Maguire’s celebration.

Richards attacked Keane for embarrassing players for not having “personality” and then criticized them for showing some character during their goal celebrations.

He said: ‘People: footballers are like robots, they have no personality!

Harry Maguire. He scores the first goal for his country, celebrates it with real passion and refers to those who have criticized him. People: That’s embarrassing. ‘

To which the former England captain, Terry, responded by saying: ‘100% agree mate’.

“I have to give credit to all of our players and staff for a very good year. We can’t do anything about the level of opposition, but the mindset and the way they applied was excellent. ”
