A beautiful abstract artwork hanging over a bed has caught the attention of hundreds on social media after its very surprising backstory was revealed.

Gold Coast’s grandmother Helen Watson shared an image of the painting titled “Fire On The Mountain” and said it was created by her seven-month-old granddaughter Billie.

Mother Georgia Watson, 29, told the Daily Mail Australia that she set up a canvas smeared with blobs of paint and covered with a plastic sheet for young Billie to wriggle onto and create the beautiful artwork.

A video shows the creative baby artist having fun as she rolls around looking at all the colors beneath her, without touching a drop of paint.

The beautiful piece was made for Helen’s birthday and is now a precious keepsake.

Georgia said she and young Billie wanted to make a memorable Father’s Day gift for Billie’s father Brett, 32.

“We were trying to do the typical handprint on a card, which was very difficult with a wriggly baby. So we decided that maybe something on a bigger scale would be easier with a little less clutter,” Georgia said.

“Using a canvas and having Billie reach out for the colors she liked, we stood outside on the grass, painted the entire canvas, and put a plastic sheet over it so Billie could move across the canvas.”

The painting turned into an incredible blue and white work of art with shades of gold and black.

The idea is also a great DIY sensory play experience for young Billie who “loved it so much”

‘We are so proud of Billie’s little creations. Every piece she makes is original and different! She always likes the big reveal when we take the plastic sheet off and see what kind of work has been made,” she said.

The making of the paintings takes between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on how long Billie likes to play on the canvas.

Georgia has a Instagram page which she plans to use to showcase all of Billie’s artwork.

After the images and video were shared online, hundreds responded in awe of the result.

‘It’s great that it has such sentimental value. She has a great future I think!!’ wrote a woman.

“That’s absolutely beautiful, well done bubba,” said another, a third added: “What a wonderful idea and a great result.”
