“I’ve never seen that!” Irene Aldana ‘closes’ Macy Chiasson with a heel-kick to the LEVER from the floor at UFC 279…with the American just MINUTES away from the biggest win of her career
- Irene Aldana defeated Macy Chiasson in their Catchweight Division fight at UFC 279
- The Mexican made a stunning heel kick to the liver to stop the American
- Chiasson was on track for victory for the rare technical knockout blow
Mexico’s Irene Aldana won a technical knockout victory over Macy Chiasson on Saturday night at UFC 279 after a heel kick to the liver left her American opponent unable to continue.
Aldana took a stunning victory with the vicious kick, seemingly from a weak position with her back to the canvas and Chiasson standing over her, while the 34-year-old came out on top in the Catchweight clash in Las Vegas.
Chiasson was on course for the win before the third round stoppage, but instead suffered a rare defeat.

The break came with Aldana on deck and less than three minutes on the clock
With just under three minutes left on the clock, Chiasson managed to get Aldana to the ground in a third takedown of the night, and appeared to be in control and after a brief struggle came to his feet.
But then the Mexican gave herself the space to swing her legs at the American, who hadn’t given himself enough distance, connecting to Chiasson’s body on the first try.
Chiasson fell to the ground, visibly in considerable pain to a stunned crowd, and referee Jason Herzog waved for medical support before giving the crowd a heel-kick to the gut.
Chiasson fell to the ground in visible pain in front of a shocked Las Vegas crowd
In a video posted to Twitter by MMA-mania, the fight commentator’s shock can be heard, and you can hear them say, ‘Right to the liver – I’ve never seen that before!
‘A hit on the liver, perfectly placed. Wow! That just opens up a whole new angle to the game!
“I’ve never stopped anyone with a kick to the liver from the ground!”
And their fellow commentator was equally stunned, adding, “It shut off her body! If you’ve ever hit the liver, you know it just shuts everything down.”
The liver is one of the largest and heaviest organs in the body and acts as one of the centers of blood circulation, with only limited protection against the abdominal muscles and the rib cage.
The pain of a liver kick is due to the aggravation of the vagus nerve, which can cause the body to shut down due to decreased blood pressure and heart rate, as well as dizziness.
