For those planning to visit their bank branch, here is a list of holiday hours for Barclays, Santander, Halifax, Metro, HSBC, NatWest, and TSB
Many of us will enjoy a nice extended hour or two of sleep this morning.
The next public holiday won’t be until Monday, December 27, so it might be worth making the most of this.
With August ending with warmer weather, it’s the perfect time for people to get out and enjoy the sun or make the most of a lazy summer day.
Either way, you can spend some money on food or leisure on your well-deserved day off.
If you need to go to the bank, do they normally work in the UK, and what are the opening hours?
Do the banks open during the August bank holiday?
Before we reveal the opening hours of the main banks below, it’s important to know that you may be able to solve certain banking issues online or in the app.
Barclays and HSBC let you pay by check with their apps instead of going to a branch.
Most banks will not operate normally on this bank holiday Monday – here is a list of all the major banks and whether they are open today.
Unfortunately, all Barclays branches are closed on public holidays. The banks are usually open from 9 am or 10 am and close between 3 pm and 5 pm, Monday to Saturday.
Barclays has around 1,600 banks in the UK – use the online branch locator to find the nearest bank and check opening times on other days.
Santander also closes its branches on holidays, so you don’t have access to in-person help.
Instead, customers can take advantage of online banking, or if you’ve been the victim of fraud or lost your card, you can use Santander’s emergency services.
Halifax is another bank that will remain closed this holiday. Halifax is part of the Lloyds Banking Group with more than 1,000 branches nationwide.
The branches are usually open from 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You can always check the opening times of your local branches via the online branch locator tool.
If you are a customer of Metro Bank, you are in luck as it will open its branches as normal today.
Metro says all of its branches will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can check how well Metro services are running here.
HSBC will remain closed this summer. HSBC should reopen at their normal Tuesday hours – which differ depending on which one you visit.
Which you can check via the branch locator. For those unfamiliar with the Bank Holidays Act of 1871: four extra days off in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Natwest customers aren’t very lucky either. However, it does have an updated bank holiday opening hours page, specifically designed to guide you.
All Natwest branches will be closed, the website suggests using branch banking, video banking, or the post office for personal service.
