Giannis Antetokounmpo has avoided an ankle injury after limping in Greece’s outburst against Estonia to advance to the round of 16 at EuroBasket on Thursday.

The Greek ‘Freak’ scored 25 points in 19 minutes before departing midway through the third quarter in the Group C final for both teams when Estonia crashed together with Great Britain.

Antetokounmpo was seen limping out of the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, but was able to participate in the celebrations on the pitch after the game and exchange handshakes with Estonia’s players and coaches.

Greek national team coach Dimitrios Itoudis said Antetokounmpo was receiving ice and treatment, but did not sound concerned.

“It’s all good,” Itoudis told reporters in a post-match interview, clarifying that his star player’s injury concerns his ankle, not his knee, as initially reported.

On Thursday, it was reported that Antetokounmpo was suffering from a minor ankle sprain.

He was 9 for 10 from the field against Estonia, and in his four group stage matches he averaged 29.5 points on 58 percent shooting in 26-and-a-half minutes per game.

Kostas Sloukas was Greece’s second top scorer in their last group stage match, with 11 points.

Siim-Sander Vene led Estonia (1-4) with 19 points. Kerr Kriisa and Janari Joesaar each had 12 and Kristjan Kitsing scored 10.

In two days Greece will take on the Czech Republic.

It is unclear if Antetokounmpo will be recovered in time to play.

His injury will worry the Milwaukee Bucks with less than a month before the start of training camp in October.

The Wisconsin franchise is battling for a spot in the NBA Finals next season and will need Antetokounmpo healthy and on all cylinders to achieve their goals.

The six-time All Star has missed 10 or more regular season games in his last four years. In the 2021-22 season, he missed a total of 15 games.

The Bucks are involved in five preseason games against the Memphis Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks (twice), Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets before taking on Joel Embiid’s Philadelphia 76ers on October 20.

Their first game of the season will be broadcast on TNT and the tip is at 19:30
