Gary Neville suggests that the Man United players have their ‘PR and teams working’ to blame Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as a new report claims the stars ‘have lost faith in him’ and fear the lack of authority and the ‘favoritism’.
Gary Neville has accused Manchester United players of turning on the PR machine to blame the tormented coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the 5-0 loss to Liverpool.
Scrutiny is rapidly intensifying at Solskjaer’s position as coach at Old Trafford after humiliation at the hands of his fierce rivals, but Neville insisted on Sunday that the Norwegian should have the rest of the season at the club.
And now, responding to ESPN reports that Solskjaer’s support in the locker room is crumbling, Neville struck out.
Gary Neville attacked Manchester United players amid report of growing team unrest
‘Here we go! The players’ PR and social media teams are hard at work! ‘Neville wrote in response to the story.
When the reporter who wrote the article added that the blame for United’s unrest goes straight to the top of the club, Neville added: ‘Nail in the head!’
the ESPN Report in question says United players are unhappy with Solskjaer’s alleged favoritism towards certain players and his reluctance to give opportunities to players like Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard and Nemanja Matic.
He adds that veteran players are dismayed that Solskjaer did not help Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood develop a higher level of cohesion on the field.
Antonio Conte is the name related to the replacement of Solskjaer in case the ax falls on the United manager. Conte won the Premier League with Chelsea and in his last job, he lifted the Serie A title with Inter Milan.
But in his assessment of United’s troubles on Sky Sports Sunday night, Neville scorned that Conte is the remedy for the club’s troubles.
In any other club, he’s in huge trouble tonight. In any other part of United’s recent history, I would have been in trouble, ”Neville said. But because of what happened with (Louis) Van Gaal and (José) Mourinho, it’s not going to happen.
“Mourinho was the best coach in the world when he came to United. The best manager in the world! And he didn’t do it here. (Antonio) Conte is available and I would not take him to Manchester United. I would not do it.
I don’t think it’s adequate. I could be wrong, maybe they bring it here tomorrow and I would back it up, but I don’t think it fits. We have seen a coach with a specific style like Louis van Gaal and it didn’t work out here.
“I’m not saying there isn’t a manager who can come to United and do well and someday if Ole is not here I hope that will happen, but today personally I think it would be wrong to fire Solskjaer today.”
