Gary Lineker admitted that he misjudged James Milner after stating that he was “ not convinced ” about the Liverpool midfielder in 2016.

The 35-year-old is the longest-serving player in the Premier League after making his debut for Leeds United in 2002.

The veteran has played for Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester City throughout his 19 years in the top flight and most recently has made 180 league appearances for Liverpool, winning the Champions League and Premier League in Anfield.

The expert tweeted in 2016 that he was `` still unconvinced '' about the midfielder after his move to Liverpool.

Milner’s versatility has been a key asset for Jurgen Klopp, as the Reds boss relies on him for backup at times.

Despite his success, it appears the expert Lineker was not a fan of the former England international during his debut season at Anfield.

In March 2016, Lineker tweeted: “Your managers seem to love James Milner. It is clear that he can play anywhere in the midfield, but personally he is not convinced. ”

He followed the Tweet a few months later, in preparation for Euro 2016, saying: ‘The answer always seems to be James Milner. I am still trying to resolve the issue.

But Milner’s performances in a red jersey since then appear to have won the former forward.

Lineker admitted that he was wrong in judging the Liverpool man in the Game of the day: top 10 podcasts and revealed that she had personally apologized to him.

“I actually apologized to him on the air,” Lineker said.

A few years ago, I tweeted something. He was always playing in different positions and I tweeted like ‘I don’t really know what James Milner is,’ Lineker said.

‘I was wrong, because actually what he is is an incredibly brilliant professional who will play anywhere for you. I apologized to him and he took it with great encouragement. ‘

Lineker had previously taken to Twitter to confess that he had seen the error of his ways.

Lineker previously admitted he was wrong in a 2018 tweet that Milner blatantly replied to.

He wrote: ‘I once tweeted that I really didn’t know what James Milner was on the football field. I do it these days and I owe you an apology. He is a wonderful, versatile and intelligent footballer. My mistake.’

The Liverpool vice captain was a talking point on the podcast when it came to the most forgotten heroes of the Premier League era and with a total of 569 top flight appearances, Milner was an obvious mention.

Despite being currently offside with a hamstring injury, Milner has made eight appearances for Liverpool this season, providing two assists.
