A new game announcement came from inXile entertainment today, when their triple-A PvPvE multiplayer VR shooter Frostpoint came to light. This is their second foray into the VR market after The Mage’s Tale from 2017.
Aimed at a 2020 launch on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index headsets, it will be published by Japanese company Thirdverse, although inXile has been owned by Microsoft for almost two years now.
Brian Fargo, founder and studio head of inXile entertainment, said:
I’ve been in love with VR since the early days and have had some of my best game memories with a VR headset on. We’ve created an immersive new world with Frostpoint VR and increased the intensity with over 20 player matches. It will be a thrill for us to see people stepping into the world and fighting it out.
Kiyoshi Shin, co-founder of Thirdverse Inc., said:
The world in Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds is huge, while the action is closed. We want players to be challenged to experiment and find the right equipment and weapon combinations to survive and improve their skills to be effective in this punishing yet highly enjoyable game. We look forward to seeing how the audience reacts to Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds gameplay in the coming months.
You can find the game’s detailed feature set and debut trailer below, as shared by inXile.
Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds is a 20-player team player multiplayer shooter that takes two sides against each other in high-intensity PvP game modes, with a unique PvE twist.
Each team, located on an abandoned military base in Antarctica, must prepare and go out to dominate the other team and protect themselves from terrifying biomechanical creatures.
High-quality PvP in VR
Players are matched with 10v10 teams and coordinate their tactics through approach, strategy and equipment to dominate the enemy team through beautiful cards and engaging game modes such as capture and control.
Unique Sci-fi setting
Teams will fight for control of a forgotten military base in Antarctica where other players are not the only enemy. Prepare and storm ahead to interact with the other team and protect yourself from the constant, otherworldly biomechanical threat.
Very detailed weapons
More than a dozen guns and pistols have been recreated down to the smallest detail, so you can realistically hold them with one or two hands and load, stretch, fire and clean them up, and change fire modes. Tools and ammo complete your arsenal, including grenades, health kits, armor upgrades, gun turrets and tracking upgrades.
