Florida woman, 33, gives birth to son a week after husband died in tragic accident

A Florida woman gave birth to her second child a week — down to the minute — after her husband died in a tragic accident.

Gabriel “Gabe” Alvarez, 43, was working in construction in Miami on Oct. 25 when a heavy device fell on him, killing him on the spot.

Exactly one week later, his wife, Grace Sotolongo-Alvarez, 33, welcomed their son with a photo of her husband watching over them.

Grace was only a week away from her scheduled cesarean section when disaster struck.

“Today I lost the love of my life… the one person I loved arguing with and laughing with, the father of my children, and the man who made me feel whole and safe,” Grace wrote on Facebook.

“Today is the worst day of my life and for the first time ever I had to break my 5-year-old daughter’s heart and help her process that Dad won’t come home today.

“My son will never meet his father, who prayed for him and wanted him so badly,” she continued.

“I know you’ll give me strength and I know you’re meeting our son right now before he makes his grand entrance. I love you. I will love you forever and I will make sure that our children always know you and know all the dreams and hopes you had for them. You took a piece of my heart and soul with you.’

A week later, she shared photos of baby Gabriel’s birth.

“A week ago today, at 1:05 PM, you took your last breath, my dear. Today, at exactly 1:05 PM, our son, #GabrielTomasAlvarez, took his first breath,” she wrote. “Everything about today is filled with signs that you’re here with us.”

Timing seemed important to Grace.

“As a ‘believer’ I see no coincidence,” she said People. “I know he’s been with me the whole time. Gabriel looks exactly like him. I’ll make sure he knows what an incredible husband, father, brother, son and friend he was, and I’ll do my best to raise him the way Gabe would have wanted.”

‘It was my idea. I had to be “calm” and try to live in peace to bring Gabriel Tomas into the world,” she told People. “The image was for me to be able to look up and see the face I adore, which has always been my ride or dies.

“I’ll make sure he knows what an incredible husband, father, brother, son and friend he was, and I’ll do my best to raise him the way Gabe would have wanted,” Grace said.

“I will love you forever and I will make sure that our children always know you and know all the dreams and hopes you had for them,” Grace said.

“He would have been there if he hadn’t been taken from us, so I had to make sure I could ‘see him.'”

Grace has continued to share updates, including a photo of the baby wearing a Lion King Simba onesie and cap. She explained that she and her husband had joked that he would hold him like Mufasa did in the movie.

“These pictures should have been so different,” she said.

Liza Santana-Pineres, a friend of the couple, said: Today that Gave was ‘happy’ having a son.

“Gabe just really wanted that experience,” she said. “The whole family was over the moon.”

Bringing the baby home was “surreal,” Grace said.

“Under the circumstances, I’m holding baby Gabriel and Gracie as much as possible,” she said

“I have moments where I feel I have to be strong and accept it because I’m a mom and can’t fall apart,” she said.

‘But others, I cannot bear my reality. The love of my life was taken from me in an instant… A piece of me is gone.

“Under the circumstances, I’m holding baby Gabriel and Gracie as much as possible,” she added.

“They keep me going. I know that my husband, the love of my life, will live on through his children and I hope to find peace and healing as they both grow up.”
