Wetherspoon’s paltry chip count has amassed more than 40,000 members, and people across the country take to the group to post photos of their dinners — complete with measurements of the length of the chips and the often meager number of chips served with their meals.

Diners from all over the country have taken to the group to share how they’ve already gotten 10 chips on the side of meals, including paninis, steak and mixed grills.

Thomas William posted the latest roundup, writing: ’76 meals with a chip count and 16 extra servings of chips were posted this week. These account for a whopping 2550 chips served to your dear contributors.

‘The average amount of chips with a meal was 25.28 chips and 39.31 chips on an extra portion. This equates to an overall average of 27.72 chips.

‘The smallest amount of chips in a meal was just 13 chips, and the largest amount was a whopping 40 chips! Give a range of 27 chips.’

One dedicated chip expert even brought a scale to measure the fare - he found that his chips weighed 189g, about 7.27g per chip.

One dedicated chip expert even brought a scale to measure the fare – he found that his chips weighed 189g, about 7.27g per chip.

‘Partner didn’t let me bring a scale yesterday, but he’s late for work, so he managed to sneak them into Sir Henry Tate Chorley.

“26 chips (fairly average) with a total weight of 189g, about 7.27g per chip,” he wrote.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told FEMAIL: “A few years ago, Wetherspoon carpets were all the rage on Facebook, so it’s probably no surprise that someone has started a chip account now.

“All bars should serve the same weight of chips, but the number of chips can vary depending on the size of the chips.”
