Royals, they are just like U.S! prince william and Duchess Kate may have had a fairytale wedding, but their epic love story has many moments that are recognizable to any couple.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first met in 2001 while studying history at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Kate admitted she couldn’t keep her cool when she was first introduced to the prince.
“Well, I actually think I turned bright red when I met you [William] and was sunk because I was very shy to meet you, “Kate recalled in an interview with Tom Bradby on ITV News in 2010.
As for William, he revealed that he was immediately drawn to Kate’s ability to make him laugh.
“She has a very naughty sense of humor, which helps me a bit because I have a very dry sense of humor, so it was fun, we had a really good laugh and then it happened,” William told Bradby at the time.
The university’s loves dated for years but split briefly in 2007 while William was stationed outside the Household Cavalry outside London. During that time, the couple was viewed intensively in the public eye, prompting the pair to go their separate ways. However, the couple reconciled their romance a year later.
William explained to ITV News that he and Kate were “both very young” and “found ourselves” when they split up. “We tried very hard to find our own way and we grew up, so it was just a little space and it worked out better,” he said at the time.
Kate added that their split helped her grow as a person and appreciate her independence outside of a relationship.
“At the time I wasn’t very happy with it, but it actually made me a stronger person,” she said. “You discover things about yourself that you may not have realized. I think a relationship can get quite digested when you are younger, and I really appreciated that time for me, even though I didn’t think it at the time. ”
The couple announced their engagement in November 2010 before marrying Westminster Abbey in London in April 2011. Kate gave birth to their first child, Prince George, in 2013, followed by their daughter, Princess Charlotte, in 2015 and their youngest son, Prince Louis, in 2018.
During their royal engagements over the years, William and Kate have shown that they are an ordinary pair at heart despite being in the spotlight.
