Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss the Merseyside derby on December 1 as Rafa Benitez took another blow on Friday in his attempts to boost Everton’s momentum.

Calvert-Lewin started the season by scoring three goals in Everton’s first three games, but hasn’t played since Aug. 26.

He was expected to be back before the international break, but suffered a setback in training and his rehabilitation from a quadriceps problem has been slow.

Benitez, whose team faces a difficult streak of matches that begins with Sunday’s trip to Manchester City, has been without his team’s backbone for most of the fall, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Yerry Mina also absent.

But he made it clear that England striker Calvert-Lewin would not be coming to his rescue anytime soon.

“I try not to put dates because you never know, but I said at least two or three weeks,” Benítez explained.

‘What does that mean? It depends on how you progress. It could be sooner or later.

“What I can say for sure is that he will be out for at least two or three weeks.”
