Ethiopia: 56 people killed in airstrike at IDP camp

An airstrike in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region has killed 56 people and injured at least 30 at a camp for the displaced, two aid workers said.

Both aid workers, who declined to be named, said the number of deaths had been confirmed by local authorities.

The rescuers also sent Reuters photos they had of the injured in the hospital, many of them children.

Military spokesman Colonel Getnet Adane and government spokesman Legesse Tulu did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The government has previously denied targeting civilians in the 14-month conflict with Tigrayan forces.

The strike hit the camp in the town of Dedebit in the northeast of the region, near the border with Eritrea, according to aid workers.
