40 subpoenas have been issued by the Department of Justice seeking information about the actions of former President Donald J. Trump and his associates regarding the 2020 election and the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

Boris Epshteyn and Mike Roman, who were both Trump advisers, have had their phones seized as evidence reports that the… New York Times.

The move represents a sort of escalation in the investigation that comes just two months before the midterm elections, after several months of relative calm.

The Jan. 6 investigation coincides with a separate investigation into Trump’s storage of classified documents at his home in Mar-a-Lago.

Other names the DOJ has been in touch with that are close to the former president include Dan Scavino, Trump’s former director of social media.

Scavino started working for Trump on one of his golf courses and grew up to be one of his most loyal aides. He remains an adviser to Trump.

The Times reports how the Justice Department issued search warrants to seize electronic devices from people involved in the “fake voter effort” living in swing states, including Epshteyn and Roman, who was a Trump campaign strategist.

Federal agents seized the pair of advisers’ electronic devices last week.

Bernard Kerik, a former New York Police Commissioner who, along with his friend, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, went around promoting baseless claims of voter fraud, was also subpoenaed by prosecutors at the US law firm in Washington.
